We've just introduced a brand new range of wool rugs to BK Carpets & Rugs, made right here for the South African market, and unlike almost everything else in our showroom, these aren't off-the-shelf. Every wool rug in this range is made to order: your size, your colour, your edge finish. It's the kind of rug you usually only find through specialist importers at import prices. We've built it to cost the same as the Turkish rugs we've sold for years.

Wool has been used to make rugs and carpets for thousands of years for a simple reason: nothing else does the job as well for as long. It's not a trend, it's just a genuinely better material for a floor covering, and there are a few reasons why.
Wool fibres are naturally coated in lanolin, which means spills bead up on the surface instead of soaking straight in, giving you real time to blot up a mess before it becomes a stain. That same fibre structure makes wool naturally flame-retardant, without any chemical treatment needed. It's also naturally resilient: a wool fibre can be bent and crushed thousands of times and spring back to its original shape, which is exactly why wool rugs handle daily footfall so much better than synthetic ones and don't flatten out or track in high-use areas. On top of that, wool is a natural insulator, so a wool rug helps retain warmth underfoot in winter and takes the edge off noise in open-plan spaces. Edge Finishes
Every wool rug in this range can be finished one of two ways.
Standard Edge: a classic bound finish, understated and practical. A great option if you want the rug itself to be the focus, not the border.
Canvas Tape Edge: a strip of canvas tape is bound along the entire perimeter of the rug, giving it a cleaner, more tailored, more modern look. Beyond the aesthetics, it genuinely improves how the rug performs day to day: it adds structural stability to the edge, helps the rug lie flatter, and reduces the movement and curling that can happen at rug corners over time, particularly useful in high-traffic spots like hallways and entryways.
